Can money and power ever make us happy? How much is enough? Our constant desire for more is part of our human nature.

Some call it a useful dowry of evolution, others a fault in the human genetic make-up: The old mortal sin Greed seems to be more ubiquitous than ever. Why can’t people ever get enough, where is this self-indulgence leading – and are there any ways out of this vicious circle of gratification?

“People like to have a lot of stuff because it makes them the feeling of living forever,” says American social psychologist Sheldon Solomon, who believes today’s materialism and consumerism will have disastrous consequences.

Anyone who fails to satisfy his or her desires in this age of the Ego is deemed a loser. But with more than 7 billion people on the Earth, the ramifications of this excessive consumption of resources are already clear. Isn’t the deplorable state of our planet proof enough that “The Greed Program,” which has made us crave possessions, status and power, is coming to an end? Or is the frenzied search for more and more still an indispensable part of our nature? We set off to look for the essence of greed. And we tell the stories of people who – whether as perpetrators or victims or even just as willing consumers – have become accomplices in a sea change in values.

  • Its nice that Dw has supported this Doc, its nice shows that they care as they inform many people of the news everyday
and it is all so central to what this doc discribes, greed serch for happines meanning.

  • You know the problem with people like this guy quoting the Bible, is the translation that they are quoting from. Just 1 example. He quotes the Bible saying God gave me (man) "dominion" over the earth. Thats the King James translation, interpretation, I would say bastardization of the original word. If translated without the political agenda behind the King James translations, the verse is more like God intended the Adam (humans) to "tend his garden, nurture his animals, with harmony". This translation has a hugely different tone and meaning. One is aggressive, domineering, one is nurturing and harmonious. These terrible translations of God's word permeate Biblical translations the last 14000, since the great flood. If you want some of the real Biblical language, pick up "Genesis Revisted" by Sitchen, read it, look at his bibliography, he references 100's of authors research, and start your journey of learning origins of the Bible's stories.

  • Foolishness the willful rejection of higher wisdom…I was three and had a natural desire to talk to God…and immediantly felt his presence his spirit of peace and knowing his concern…his spirit gives you a positive hopeful assurance and clarity of mind…as I grew I read the bible and instantly understood Gods higher wisdom coming from it beggining with Genises…through prayer and God's word he answers questions beyond the human mind…

  • When you learn to let go and live without all the things you think you have to have in life. That is when you can look back and realize what had you and you also realize you really weren't happy. Living without all of that stuff and all the hi class wants is a better and much more rewarding life!

  • Philip Chiyangwa trying to compare himself to Warren Buffet and Bill Gates is laughable. At least unlike in Zimbabwe they did not make everyone as poor as a church mouse with no political say. When the poverty is so dire in Zimbabwe that most people do not have jobs and he goes around spouting off how he pays tax to help everyone. If the leaders were not so greedy and just in it for themselves others could have a piece of the pie as well.

  • This documentary sadly highlights the spiritual void humanity has and tries to fill with physical goods to feel more important than others.
Eddy Vedder Society describes it well:

"We have a greed, with which we have agreed
And you think you have to want more than you need
Until you have it all you won't be free"

*7M view and no dislikes- says we're all in agreement.

  • 🇧🇩🇿🇦 I Love My South African Wife Nocwaka Ngoqo and my children More Then My Own Life Event I can't survive whiteout Them please just tell my wife she is staying in the East London RSA

  • Mugabe economic legacy: By November 2008, Zimbabwe's peak month of inflation was estimated at 79.6 billion percent month-on-month . It's fun to see them people so happy and dancing ajajajajjj

  • We all die, no one is special that they deserve to survive at the expense of others. The greatest bank robbery is the when the capitalist creates a currency, which is a certificate of permission to interact in a society, then he picks boys with same anxiety about death, opens bank accounts for them, he sets up labs only for his fears and keeps the rest of the people in the country he formed violently away from the lab and factory so that only his needs are met. He then inflates prices our of terrorism and hate for sharing physical existence. Capitalism, democracy, religion is all greed and selfishness, antisocial behavior, they pick their own market and bully others against contributing to solutions, it is selfishness with contribution to research in the assumption that another person's sense of the environment is wrong, which is a big lie, no one can be wrong about what they sense about their environment and value addition.

  • …buy 13th shirt just to have a sense I live long enough to wear all 13 shirts…IS UTTER NONSENSE. It may sound spiritual…vise…or humble, but it is just NONSENSE. We buy stuff because we want to have that feeling over the control of our happiness. The greatest deception is that we possess that control or that it comes from us. In fact the true happiness comes from knowing that there is a Great Designer who takes care of my happiness and all what I need to do is believe Him and open up to receive his advice. …its all in the New Testament. …I have no problem to buy a 13th t-shirt. …what I would have a problem with, is portraying myself as the ultimate source of knowledge, when in fact all I am is a small tiny peace of creation feeling smart enough to advice others. (…nothing against DW Documentary. You guys are awesome).

  • Poor human soul only rest in uterus well fell totally home! After landing the world, there are no place like uterus again!because only baby their pure soul can still contact with God, and human body start away from God!

  • Africa is for the African (black peoples) stop the madness and the twisting of the truth, the world is what it is today because of European greed and thievery

  • The sun and the moon rise for us as humans, it's a life giver, yet crazy money fools with airlines owners take it away with contrails to make clouds to harm the planet. GREEDY ONE NEED DESTROYING.

  • 1 Timothy 6: 10
For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
This I learned from my mother, who was an Atheist.
She taught me money is a necessary tool.
But to never lust after it.
To use it for charity if you can.

  • People are constantly asking the brain with you have to have pissed you off cuz I should be accepted how about having a good heart how about loving your neighbour how about I am playing within because God lives here what about that? Do you help people? You love your spouse? Is your spouse beautiful? How can I make them more beautiful? You see we're full of question marks and exclamation marks that's not what God intended God intended to Universe to be a hole replenish the Earth as God intended and you will be rich.

  • Greed is not the problem unless making money off money not your labor is greed . I'm greedy for a healthy planet. ..Money is Life in a capitalist society . ..Address the problem damn it the problem is usury, is the whole world really this unethical? The problem is the Capital investor making money off money . The main problem is the now trillionaire capital investor stealing from the worker. From you.. the capital investor profiting from your land, your labor, and your resources .

  • Humans have to be intelligent to survive. No species is any more than they have to be to survive and reproduce. Thats a biological fact. We are extremely an extremely vulnerable species. Without intelligence, we would never have survived the conditions of the earth.
